Welcome to Sports Afield
A virtual tour of an African safari camp
By Diana Rupp, Sports Afield Editor in Chief/Webmaster
One of the best parts of going to Africa is staying in a safari camp. In the East African country of Tanzania, traditional tent camps are a safari tradition. But just because you sleep in a tent doesn't mean you rough it! On the contrary, luxurious accommodations are also a safari tradition. In September 2006, my husband, Scott, and I discovered what this meant when we spent a week in a wonderfully appointed safari camp run by Tanzania Wildlife Company in Tanzania's Rungwa region.

Scott and I were assigned to this tent, just a short walk from the main cooking/dining area. While the September days were hot, there was always a cool breeze blowing through the mesh windows, and the porch area was a great place to catch up on my journal entries whenever we took a break from hunting, which wasn't often.
